Nine Emperor God Festival 2011 Malaysia and also Thailand

This year I have booked a trip to Phuket, Thailand to witness the Nine Emperor God Festival. As I looked through some of the photos taken by others, I found that the festival there has its unique way compared to Malaysia.

Last year I went to the Ampang temple and I took quite a number of photos like below.

Do click to my Photo Blog to see the rest. I did not manage to attend the fire walking ceremony as I heard that only those with media passes are allowed. I personally believe that this is one event that we should see at least once in our life.

For details of the events in Ampang you can click at 9emperorgods  and Phuket click at PhuketVegetarian

There are other states in Malaysia which also have this event, example penang, you can click this PDF file from the visit penang web site and Perak you can click here, other states such as Sungai Petani in Kedah and Muar, Johor also do have celebration.

And more write up can be found at wikipedia

What I did during New Year 2007...

On the eve, I drove down to Melaka. We booked a night stay at A Famosa Resort. In my life time, this is the 3rd time I have been to Melaka. The first time I was there with my parents. The second time it was with my colleague at my previous company. Melaka is one of the nearest states from KL and it took me 14 years to go there again. It just took us approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the resort via North South Highway.

We have booked an apartment. It is located at Beverly Hills Condominium. When we reach the reception we were told that we could only checked in after 3pm. Looking at our watch, the small finger is at 2, what do we do with an hour more to go. We decided to make our first tour of the resort, to a place called Animal World. It cost Rm38 per adult.

All types of chicken are found there, big, small, cute and etc. I spend more than 15 minutes, clicking and below is some photos.

On the left is my favorite photo in chicken world. The cute little chick is eying at my camera, as I click it brings up its head and its eye met my lens. As for the photo on the right, I am not sure what crime it has committed but its very sad to see it behind bars. No where to go, cannot even turn around, continue in another post.......

Feel the environment

I was at KLCC on Saturday with the intention of taking pictures of the famous twin towers and also the big Christmas trees at the concourse. I believe the twin towers is one of the most photograph place in Malaysia. Do you believe me if I say photography is a way to relieve stress? Especially landscape photography, all you have with you is a piece of tool that allows you to freeze time, just enough for you to capture the essence of your object.

As I was walking outside, the evening wind was blowing. There are a lot of people sitting outside basking whatever that is left of the sun, families, couples, children, tourist and “photographer” like me. I slowly walk toward the bridge in the centre, along the way I could see a mother taking a photo of her lovely daughter, capturing a beautiful smile. Near the fountain, I already saw a “photographer” shooting away with his DSLR at the majestic towers, without any weapon to defend itself, the tower just surrender by displaying its best views.

As I reached the bridge, I remember the pointers that I read from magazines and internet “Feel the environment” they said. I could see there are already a lot of people taking photos, some with their mobile phones, their point & shoot and some with the SLR or DSLR. There are also those who just stand there and enjoy the view, 2 lovely towers standing tall, pride of the nation deflecting the last shine from the sun. I just hoist myself up the railing and close my eyes, holding my bag, the hiding place of my tools to capture the Twin Towers.

Ksssh, the sound of the shutter, freezing time, below are some photos that I took, I guess it’s not exceptional or excellent but I think it’s not bad for someone who is there to just “Feel the environment”….

Golden Dragon Hill Temple

Today I was at a temple called Golden Dragon Hill in Rawang. This is where my mom and dad ashes are placed. This temple has grown from just a tiny shack into concrete walls and tiles. My dad has once help to clear the bushes and helps out during the construction and expansion. Today it has even a hostel for monk and nuns. Below is my pictorial journey this morning which ended at 1 Utama.

The corner of the temple and the place where all the joss stick will be put and "wish" request to the god.

The main hall of the temple.

The lovely door that is in the main hall.

The beautiful flowers in the temple and below is pictures from 1 Utama
