I am not sure if I am the only one. Every year I pay taxes and every year when it comes to budget, I could see that there are xx amount goes to this and that but I am not sure how it is actually spend. A lot of us are interested only in the increase of cigarette price, alcohol price, tax deductions and etc but how many of us actually spend the time to read and find out how is our hard earned money being planned and use. How will it benefit us in return and not just how much more or less tax to pay.
I am not sure do the government actually declared what they have spent and earned the previous year. Maybe I do not read in details as every year the budget contains pages of pages of text and graph. I am not sure is it our right to know how this money of ours is being spend by the government in details, how many goes to the improvement of the “public” infrastructure, salary of the government servant, extra curriculum activities like organising parties, overseas “learning” trips, building more amenities for the “public” to enjoy and etc.
Recently somebody told me that the government might declare a 2 months bonus for the government servant. I felt a bit jealous as I have not received any bonuses for almost 6 years. If you have been to any government offices to renew your passport or to get your mykad or to conduct any kind of business with the government, do you see any improvement in their services to justify the 2 months bonuses? My dad flat have yet to be transferred to my sister name after so long. My sister went to have her passport renew and according to her the services is a bit slow.
I am not good in finances, my philosophy is to save and save, that all. I do not know how to grow it and previously I do not even know how to spend it either. Now I think I have managed to learn the way of spending but it’s in a wise way and not “throwing” away the money. I can’t wait for the next budget….
If I could I would stop time and together we breathe in some fresh air and erase whatever that is bothering us in this little space of mine, whereby my life story is told, my thoughts pour out and ideas brew.

that's still kinda good! i only know how to spend, spend, spend...
The Government is unlike a public listed company where the annual accounts are reuired to be lodged with the Registrar of Companies. If you compare with a public listed company, the taxes that we are paying are the source of income, therefore, taxes can be related to the turnover of the Government. The expenditure of the company is the same as what the government will spend on the government servants in its payroll which also include the Prime Minister himself. Profir and loss of the company relates to the surplus or deficit of the Government.
I try to budget/save...but often times end up spending more than I should be...*sighs*
Hui Ying, I heard that story on the radio. They are consistenly meeting our expectation.
LeeCS, Actually I could see now there is a slight differrence as compare to 2 or 3 years ago. More and more of this stories is being reported. A good sign? that out government is more open or there are more such cases...
Dreaming Neko, hahaha, spending is good also...
Chan, the government is trying reduce its expenditure by reducing the petrol subsidy. However they are trying to satisfy the people that are part of the expenditure, which negate what they try to save. My personal view is that the correct side of the story should be is to satisfy the group of people who is generating the income and to entice them to generate more.
Consuela, the outcome always differ...hahaha
